WASHBOARD WIZARDZ (USA)

Everyone is a real funnyface (complete idiot would be a better expression but it might sound too harsh) in the Washboard Wizardz. Besides being musical clowns they are astonishingly great on their many instruments and instrument-like tools (including musical saw, kazoos, ocarina and many other toys etc.) that they use during the performance. They definitely will be one of the craziest band of the history of the Bohém Festivals (although we have had a few crazy ones already). Great musicians, funny and great arrangements played with absolute professionalism, spiced with a great amount of verbal humor and musical jokes. They do all this in their causy Hawaii shirts. Their jokes are always rightly placed, never too much or too little, everything works perfectly throughout their concerts, even if somethings is not planned in advance. Their stage presence makes the performance work. Perfect communication between the musicians and their audience. If you don't see it, you don't believe it.

Members of the band are experienced musicians who have been active in leading traditional jazz bands of California: Don Neely has founded and led the Royal Society Orchestra, one of the world's top dance orchestras of the roaring twenties sound. Tony Quinn toured Europe already decades ago as a child prodigy on guitar and he is also a well-known composer of many songs. Bill Reinhart is one of the best New Orleans style bassists and makes guitars and banjos in his spare time. Steve Drivon has been known as former member of the new Glenn Miller Orchestra on lead trombone and vocal. Bill and Steve performed already at the Bohém Festival in 1998 as members of the Port City Jazz Band.

The Washboard Wizardz was founded in 1997 and the quartet defines its style as „hillbilly-jazz" and got their main inspiration from the Hoosier Hotshots. A real treat, don't miss it!

Members of the band and their main instruments: Don Neely – clarinet, saxophone, Tony "Big Tone" Quinn – guitar, banjo, Steve Drivon – washboard, Bill "Mountain Willy" Reinhart – string bass

OTHERS ABOUT US

I must confess you, your band is the best oldtime jazzband, which I've ever heard in my life. You do a real music with heart. Each of you had me deep impressed.
(Dai Kimoto, CH, 2010)

The music the Bohém played in Davos was excellent. Tineke and I found the last evening in Steigenberg the best performance.
(Willem Peul, NL, 2010)

I want to tell you that I appreciated very much your band which is a perfect balance of traditional jazz, entertainment and music from your country with plenty of humour. And this combination by excellent musicians.
(Michel Bastide, F, 2010)

A tight-knit, disciplined, and intensely swinging ensemble. [...] The arrangements by Ittzés are both stylistically true and brilliantly inventive.
(CBMR Digest, Chicago, USA)
